BOARD TRUSTEES REQUIRED

Creating Help In Local Districts T/A C.H.I.L.D Training Academy, is based in central Belfast.  It is a shared physical activity and life-skills facility dedicated to providing young people of all abilities with the opportunities to grow personally and professionally.  We offer a wide range of courses which not only focus on physical well-being but employability skills and mental health.   Our skilled and trained workers, youth groups and community organisations all come together to work with young people to improve and develop their health, fitness, social and mental well-being and personal development through tailor made programmes. 

Who we are:

Our strategic plan is to further develop our facility to become the leading life-skills centre in Northern Ireland. As well as this we wish to build on our revenue raising opportunities and to build our networks and community in order to continue to serve the needs of young people. 
To support us on this exciting new stage of our journey, we are expanding our Board capabilities to include expertise in the following areas: 


•    Legal
•    HR/employment
•    Marketing/PR
•    Governance/risk. 
•    Finance and fundraising

People with previous experience on a board are particularly welcome but this is not essential.

 

A little more information about C.H.I.L.D. Training Academy: 
 

What we do: As Belfast’s only 5000sq foot multi-sports training and life-skills facility dedicated to the support of marginalised young people, it is our aim to provide not only provide that support but to also build stronger and more connected communities to create a network of assistance across the city.  We wish to inspire young people though health and wellbeing experiences that are accessible to all. We believe the best support programmes are designed and decided by the young people, reflecting their needs and their hopes and dreams.

Our Mission is to provide the best opportunities in physical activities and lifestyle and wellbeing training for young people in the Greater Belfast area and beyond. We do this specifically through the promotion of participation in healthy recreation in Belfast (the “area of benefit”) in particular by the provision of facilities for, and coaching, training and mentoring in, the playing of sports and other recreational activities.


Our Vision is to create an environment where every young person in the Belfast and surrounding areas has access to first class facilities, support, and information to improve their health and wellbeing.
We do this specifically through acting as a resource for young people by organising programmes of physical, educational, and other activities as a means of advancing in life and helping young people by developing their skills and capacities and their mental, physical and moral capabilities through leisure time activities.

A bit about the Board: 

Our Board members bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience across a wide range of sectors, including private business, public sector, health and finance. Working collaboratively with staff and sub-committee, it provides governance, oversight and guidance on strategic direction, business planning, funding requirements, policies, and decision-making

What can you expect? 


Time: There are 6 scheduled meetings per year, January to December, outside normal working hours. 
Location: Geographical location isn’t important. Our Board meetings can be hybrid, so you can join from wherever you are. 
Tenure: Minimum term is 5 years, renewable for an additional 5 years to a maximum of 10 consecutive years.  
Benefits: Onboarding and ongoing training will be provided.
Remuneration: this is a non-remunerated appointment.

Can you demonstrate the following? 


•    Specialist knowledge and experience of the youth sector
•    Experience in formulating & implementing strategic plans
•    Strong independent thinker with sound intellect and judgment 
•    Robust understanding of governance and the ability to operate effectively at     Board level or equivalent 
•    Good communication skills, and the ability to act as an ambassador for     C.H.I.L.D (Child Training Academy)
•    An insight into the strategic issues facing small underfunded charities 
•    Willingness & aptitude to chair and/or actively contribute to relevant Board Sub-Committees
